The Ontario Coalition for Mandatory Parenting (OCMPE) is a coalition of individuals and groups interested in promoting mandatory parenting and human development education within the school system. It strives to be an inclusive coalition that reflects cultural, linguistic, spiritual and religious/faith diversity. Members include representatives from the community of parent groups, education, child welfare, social services, family resource programs, health, service clubs and the faith, legal/law enforcement and business communities.
OCMPE envisions a society where every child is well nurtured and parenting is a valued activity undertaken by well-prepared adults and a supportive community.
The OCMPE commends the commitment of the Ontario Ministry of Education to Human Development studies as evidenced by the inclusion of four Parenting course in the new Ontario Curriculum. It strongly recommends that every student be mandated to complete at least one of these four courses to meet the requirements for secondary school graduation.
In addition OCMPE recommends the inclusion of integrated parenting and human development education units in the Kindergarten to Grade 12 programs of all students in Ontario.
